Matted Dogs:

Just paws make’s every effort to style your dog the way you would like it. However it is the OWNERS duty of care towards their pet & to maintain their pets coat between professional grooming’s. If owners fail to attend to their pet’s coat, then in the interests of the animal, we will shave off matted areas to prevent unnecessary suffering. We will be more than happy to show you how to look after your dog’s coat.

In the event of any dog needing a shave down/clip down, the owner should be aware that irritation may occur from the shaving process, as well as uncovering nicks, cut’s or other potential problems.

The owner agrees that Just Paws and/or its staff will not be held liable for any after-grooming effects of matt clipping procedures or problems "uncovered" by clipping off a badly matted, neglected coat. This could include, but is not limited to the following: itchiness, skin redness, irritations or abrasions however caused, post groom furunculosis, pyoderma - superficial or deep and/or pyotraumatic dermatitis.

Please note additional charges may be incurred if the time taken to groom your dog exceeds the normal amount of time required.

Badly behaved/ aggressive dog:

The owner (or other responsible person) agrees to inform Just Paws prior to grooming if the dog has bitten or has aggressive tendencies.

Just Paws reserves the right to muzzle your dog or ask you to muzzle your own dog or to refuse to groom it if it represents a danger to our staff or other dogs in the salon. Unless this has been discussed and agreed beforehand we reserve the right to turn your dog away without grooming it - however the full starting price for your groom may still be charged because at that point we cannot fill your appointment.

Dogs that have been sent home unfinished due to aggressive behavior will not be allowed back in the salon and we would advise seeking advice from a qualified behaviorist.

Anti- social dogs

At Just Paws we try to provide a relaxed stress free atmosphere. We feel that caging dogs can cause undue stress so we allow dogs to interact on the floor this is extremely good for younger dogs for socialization. However it is the owner’s responsibility when booking the appointment to inform us of any dog aggression issues. We can book these dogs in at quieter times and not allow them to socialize this is especially important with large breed dogs.

Shampoo’s and finishing products

At Just Paws we only use the best shampoo’s, conditioner’s and finishing products. We have a different shampoo for every skin type. It is the owner’s responsibility to inform us of any pre-existing skin conditions so we can use a sensitive shampoo. Also if your dog is currently on a prescribed shampoo please bring this with you to your appointment. Please note we do not reduce the grooming price for bringing your own shampoo!

Anal glands, Nails and ears

Included in the full grooming service we will check your dog’s nails and clip them as required. We will also check the ears and clean/pluck excessive hair as required. It is the owner’s responsibility t0 inform of any ear complaints or if the dog may be difficult with its nails. We reserve the right to withdraw these services if we feel it is causing unnecessary stress to the dog or is placing the groomer at risk.

Just Paws does not express anal glands for many reasons.  Anal glands are little sacs that sit right inside of dogs’ and cats’ rectums. They sit about 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock just inside of the anus, and they’re designed to secrete really stinky material that contains pheromones. Most dogs will empty these naturally when they pass feaces. However some breeds and overweight dogs may not be able to do this or there may be a blockage. In this instance a veterinary surgeon should empty the anal glands internally to avoid damaging them. External emptying of the anal glands, which some groomers perform can cause trauma to the tissue and is unlikely to empty them fully. Unnecessary trauma is a major reason why animals have recurrent anal gland problems. The main symptoms of anal gland problems is 'scooting' the dog will drag its bottom along the floor. Also excessive chewing at the rear end can indicate these may need to be emptied. We recommend a visit to the vets in this instance they will be able to tell if these are blocked or infected.

Dog drop off and collection

We ask owners if they can try and keep to their appointment time and to inform us if you are going to be late for your appointment. We would also ask if you could walk your dog prior to his/her appointment so they are able to do their business! We do not have the facility’s or allow time to walk your dog.

Although we have a large open plan area we would ask clients to pick their dogs up promptly. We can allow for delays in collection with advance notice. But please note we are not insured for doggy day care !

Cancellations

We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Of course in extreme circumstances this is not always possible. Late cancellation may incur a charge as we may be unable to fill that appointment slot.

Pre - existing medical conditions

It is the owners responsibility to inform us of any pre-existing medical conditions. We are both qualified veterinary nurses so are used to dealing with dogs with a variety of medical problems but we still need to be informed of what these are. For example a dog with arthritis shouldn’t be keep standing for too long and we would normally dry in the drying cabinet as this allows them to lie down. If we feel a dog is looking unwell or isn’t in a physical state to be groomed we may cease grooming and ask you to come and collect him/her. This is in the best interests of the dog a grooming session can be tiring for a dog that is not in good health. We will not accept dogs that appear unwell at admission and also dogs that have had any diarrhea recently and exhibiting signs of kennel cough. We make every effort to clean and sterilize equipment and make sure the salon is clean but ultimately it is the responsibility of the owner to keep their dogs vaccinations up to date.
